SUMMER FUN AT THE Y

It’s been fifty years since I attended my first week at Y Camp. I caught a fish. I camped out under the stars. I shot a bow and arrow. I went horseback riding. I sang songs and listened to stories at campfire. I had the best counselor. All of my children went to Y Camp. They saw nature. They made new friends. They had fun. They learned new skills and had new experiences. They developed self-esteem and character. They did things they couldn’t do at home. They grew up so much. A lot has changed in fifty years, but Y Camp is still a maturing experience that builds a bridge from life at home to life in outside society. Y Camp is caring staff, quality activities, an incredible environment, and most of all…fun. Y Camp…memories that last a lifetime.

Registration is now underway for YMCA Summer Youth Programs. Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp offers a variety of traditional and specialty overnight experiences for children entering grades 1–10. YMCA Summer Adventure Club is a day camp program for children entering grades 1-5. T-Wave is a special activity program for young people entering grades 6-8 in which teens plan and budget their own activities under YMCA supervision.

The YMCA offers one-week and two-week and five-week sessions of swimming lessons for all skill levels. Lessons are available at the Wenatchee Y Pool and at the Eastmont YMCA Aquatic Center and start June 18. In addition the Y has a variety of open recreation swims, Youth and Teen Center hours and open gym times. I hope your family will be part of the fun at the Y this summer. For complete program information, call the Y at 662-2109 or visit the Y in person at 217 Orondo in Wenatchee.
