In December 2023, Sustainable NCW voted to adopt the Sustainable Bike Co-Op after recognizing the program's potential to support repair, reuse, active transportation, and greater access to bicycles in our community.

In 2024, Sustainable NCW was awarded the Co-Op on the Go grant and began offering mobile bike repair and educational workshops throughout Chelan and Douglas Counties.

In spring 2024, a partnership with the Wenatchee Valley YMCA formed when the YMCA offered a physical space for the Bike Co-Op. Sustainable NCW continued to develop the program through outreach, staffing, in-house programming, and community bike programming.

In fall 2026, the Sustainable Bike Co-Op began transitioning to become part of the Wenatchee Valley YMCA's Outdoor Recreation Hub.

To build a more inclusive and sustainable community in North Central Washington by expanding access to bicycles, repair education, and opportunities for people to connect, learn, and ride.

We envision a community where bike riding is affordable, accessible, and safe, and where everyone has an opportunity to bike for commuting, recreation, and camaraderie.

• Education

Demystify how bikes work and help riders ride safely. Educated riders are confident and empowered riders. They're better able to safely navigate a community where cars and trucks dominate the roadways.

• Community Building

Biking is a socioeconomic equalizer. A bike co-op is accessible to all, from those who do not consider bikes a part of their daily life to seasoned riders looking for a place to gather, work on bikes, or take classes. All are welcome and encouraged to participate and volunteer.

• Advocacy

Advocacy for all things biking helps to improve community awareness of riders, improve safety, and promote thoughtful development of future bike routes and infrastructure.

• Sustainability

An increase in community members who ride, repair, and advocate for bikes translates into fewer discarded bikes, reduced carbon emissions, and a healthier, more interconnected community.

Sustainable NCW's Co-Op on the Go project is funded by Ecology with funding from Washington's Climate Commitment Act. The CCA supports Washington's climate action efforts by putting cap-and-invest dollars to work reducing climate pollution, creating jobs, and improving public health.
